At a very tender age of five, my dad passed on leaving behind my mom with three children. My two brothers were three years and one year respectively.
Dad had been the sole bread winner while mom had been a housewife since my birth. Therefore, the passing on of my dad was a great blow to mom who did not have any source of income to sustain the young family.
At that time, I had just graduated from pre-school and now in class one.
We all had a long way to go before seeing the end of our school life. My mom had a major challenge ahead of her in ensuring that we had a fulfilling life as dad had wished. Immediately after my dad was laid to rest, mom hit the road running.
She immediately started sending applications for jobs. It was not long before she secured a job as a secretary. However, working as a secretary was not very well paying.
Therefore, mom decided to look for second job. She secured another job as a secretary to lawyer. The second job was part time.
Therefore, she was able to handle the two effectively. At the same time, mom set up a grocery store at our home. Our nanny was tasked with managing the store once she was done with housework. We often had very few hours with mom.
However, we had everything we needed. At age twelve, I had learnt so much about life from mom. I was able to control the grocery store which had now enlarged and had two permanent employees.
I learnt from mom to be a go-getter. Hitherto, I have always been a great risk taker.
I have attained great success in business and life in general due to the insights I learnt from mom. Indeed, my mom will always be the most influential person in my life.
